Isla Turcke

Ms. Turcke grew up in Kingston and is a proud Leahurst graduate. Currently pursuing her BSc at McMaster University, Ms. Turcke is completing the Honours Integrated Sciences program with a concentration in Physics and a minor in both Environmental Studies and Mathematics. Her diverse interests have led her to take courses in Spanish, French, Ancient Egyptian Hieroglyphs, and Materials Engineering, as well as a field course in Iceland, where she studied Geology and Ecology.

Whether it be teaching ballet, tutoring high school students, or leading study groups for her fellow undergraduates, Ms. Turcke loves teaching in a variety of settings and disciplines. In her second year at McMaster she ran a physics help initiative, working with first year students six hours a week. The following year, Ms. Turcke was hired by the School of Interdisciplinary Sciences as a teaching assistant for first year Physics. This year, she has been a teaching assistant for first year Calculus. Ms. Turcke thoroughly enjoyed teaching Grade 10 Math last summer and is confident that her love for mathematics and learning will encourage her Leahurst students.

Apart from her academic studies, Ms. Turcke is co-President of the McMaster Gymnastics Team, where she enjoys training as well as coaching new members. In her free time, Ms. Turcke can be found reading, mountiain biking, skiing, and sailing.
