The following are some Frequently Asked Questions that may help guide you.
What are the most important aspects that the Admissions team considers in order to determine admission?
The Leahurst College Admissions team reviews the Character References, academic performance and the student's potential to make a positive contribution to Leahurst College. The goal is to assess whether the prospective student and the school are a good fit for one another.
How much does the result of the Diagnostic Assessment impact Admissions decisions?
For prospective Grade 5 and 6 students, the Diagnostic Assessment is used to determine that the minimum standard of "grade level" (as defined by Leahurst College) has been met in the areas of language and mathematics. For entry into Grades 7 through 9, the Diagnostic Assessment does impact admissions decisions more significantly. In these grades, every effort is made to ensure that the incoming student will feel comfortable with the academic demands of their teachers. For entry into Grades 10 through 12, a serious assessment of academic ability will take place to ensure that prerequisite skills and knowledge are firmly in place.
When will we receive the results from the Diagnostic Assessment?
The Diagnostic Assessment results are not shared with the prospective student or their parents/family. They are used internally only.
What does a “Student Visit Day” entail?
The prospective student visits the school for a full school day. They go through the school day like a typical Leahurst student. They go to classes, participate in daily activities and often sit for an interview with the Head of School.
What is the sibling admission policy?
Leahurst College values the commitment of families who apply to the school, and having siblings at the school is desirable. However, this does not guarantee a prospective student’s acceptance. Each application is considered on its own merits.
Does Leahurst College offer International Baccalaureate (IB)?
Leahurst College does not offer International Baccalaureate.
Does Leahurst College prepare students for Advanced Placement (AP) exams?
Yes. We are an independent University preparatory school that offers an enriched educational experience, including academics. Our exceptional Grade 8 students are challenged to complete Grade 9 content, and students are encouraged to write AP exams in their graduating year.
